Welcome to IMFA's wiki.

The International Molyneux Family Association was founded in 1986 by Wesley Luther Jacob Mullenneix.

As an all-volunteer family history association, IMFA relies on members new and old, to share their lineages, their stories, their photos of the people and places that make up their family history.  We continually add materials to the site, so check back often as improvements are underway.

This beautiful stained-glass window is located at Croxteth Hall in Lancashire, ancestral home of the Lancaster (Sefton) Molyneux. The  window is in the 1874 wing of the hall situated in the Dining Room. The coat of Arms is of the 4th Earl who was responsible for the 1874 additions to the building. The Arms incorporated on the right side of the quarter contain the arms of the 4th Countess Cecil Emily Joliffe, daughter of Baron Hylton*. According to Burke the crest for the Sefton Molyneux is "Azure, a cross moline or. Crest: A chapeau gules turned up ermine adorned with a plume of peacock feathers proper. Supporters: Two lions azure. Motto: Vivere sat vincere. (Translated as either To conquer is to live enough or To live is conquering enough)." It was probably used by the Molyneux family from about the time of Edward the first.  Burke's "General Armory" lists more than 25 coats of arms pertaining to the names: Molyneux, Molineux, Molines, Molynes, Mullines, & Mullins. All of them relate to Norman/French families, & most to the Molyneux, or Molineaux, who left Molineaux-sur-Seine to participate in the Norman invasion of England in 1066 AD.

Mx Music:

Queen of Scots Galliard by Thomas Mulliner*: Queen_of_Scots.mid

The French Galliard by Thomas Mulliner: The_French_Galliard.mid

*Thomas Mulliner was the compiler of the "Mulliner Book", an important manuscript collection of mid-16th century English keyboard music housed at the British Museum. He was also listed as the organist for the College of Corpus Christi, Oxford in March of 1563. As for his pedigree, we offer the following quote from Wayland Design – Queen of Scots Galliard, by Thomas Mulliner (www.wayland.ndo.co.uk/mulliner/ ) "....one plausible and interesting speculation by Flynn is that Mulliner came from the Lancashire recusant catholic family of Molyneux. The vagaries of sixteenth century spelling – particularly in Lancashire dialectical form – combined with some evidence of spelling of the name in mid-sixteenth century with 'r' rather than 'x' and the known presence at Oxford and then in London of another Molyneux at comparable periods, can be construed in conjunction with inferences as to age, that Thomas Mulliner was probably a son of Sir Richard Molyneux of Sefton in Lancashire. If so, it would appear that Thomas Mulliner left Oxford and acted as steward on estates at Tickhill 1566–89, returning to Gray's Inn, London in 1589, and may have performed in the musical events associated with Gray's Inn." Determining which of the many Thomas Mx's this would be is a bit problematic. If "Flynn" is correct, then this Thomas would have been the son of Sir Richard Molyneux (Baron Sefton) & Elinor Radcliffe.  This Thomas Mx was b. ca 1541 at Sefton, d. 13 JAN 1596 in Hughenden, High Wycombe, Buckinghamshire, & m.  Katherine S. Lobert in 1567, in Dublin.  Please note however that there were several Thomas Mx's b. in Lancashire (and more elsewhere) at the right time to be the Thomas Mulliner in question.

Wayne Straight has made our wiki possible and my thanks are unending. My Dad, who did not live long enough to understood what the Internet would bring to our endeavors in family history, would be in total awe. Dad was in altered space during IMFA's first and only reunion at Croxteth Hall in 1988. The grin on his face just never left. Wayne, thank you for the many hours you have offered to get this site up and running, and for all the work you continue to do. If Dad could only experience this website. I know he would echo thoughts you left on a Canadian list, and I quote you: "Genealogy without history is just dry statistics. It's the history that provides the context to bring your ancestors to life so that you can better understand why they made the choices they did. It allows you to empathize with them." Marie Mullenneix Spearman, daughter of IMFA's founder Wesley Luther Jacob Mullenneix, and IMFA's president by default.
